Medical gases and quality

The Dutch Health Inspectorate (IGZ) has announced that production and distribution of medical gases in hospitals will be subject to a tighter inspection regime. As a results of recent accident IGZ has performed a root cause analysis:

• responsibilities are not clearly defined;
• a quality management system is absent or essentials elements are;
• the interdepartmental interaction re. medical gases is deficient;
• dedicated outlet are absent;
• there is not oxygen shut-off valve in each treatment chamber
